  • L'histoire des plantes is a translation of Du Pinet's Historia plantarum (first published Lyon : G. Cotier, 1561). Of the 6 additional treatises, each with special t.p., the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th have statement of responsibility: Recueillie de Gesnerus & autres bons & approuuez autheurs; the 1st (L'histoire des plantes aromatiques) is largely based on the works of Carolus Clusius, Garcia de Orta and Nicolás Monardes; the 6th (Entier discours) is drawn from the principal source of Historia plantarum, P.A. Mattioli's Commentarii in libros sex Pedaci Dioscordis, and Jean Liébault's translation of Gesner's Thesaurus Euonymi Philiatri, book 2 (Quatre livres des secrets de medecine). The 2nd-6th were reissued by Guillaume Macé, 1619; cf. Duveen, D.I. Bib. alchemica et chemica, p. 248
  • Historia plantarum "includes much material taken from Mattioli and [Leonhart] Fuchs, both of which are based on Dioscorides' De materia medica"--NYPL 1911-1971, v. 217, p. 17.
