  • Rubrication: Woodcut initials hand colored in green, purple, blue and red; some initials supplied in red; capital strokes, paragraph marks in red.
  • Acquired from Voynich by the College of Physicians of Philadelphia prior to April 5, 1920. With the bookplate of: Ioannes Egolphus ex Familia Nobilium a Knoeringen, electus & confirmatus Episcopus Augustanus (Bishop of Augsburg 1573-1575). With Voynich's typewritten description pasted at front.
  • Binding: contemporary pigskin over wooden boards with blind-stamped ornaments on cover (Agnus Dei, eagles, conventional leaf, acorn, bird, etc.). Remains of two leather clasps; four raised bands on spine. Fragment of very early ms. on vellum used as guard. "Vocabularius Salemonis" written in brown ink on lower edge. Spine now detached from binding. Housed in a clamshell.
